Send for Signing

Send a contract for e-signature via Firma or mark it as sent offline.

Contracts can be sent for legally binding electronic signature via Firma, or marked as sent for offline signing.

Online Signing (via Firma)

  1. Open a draft contract and ensure all fields are complete:
    • Client is selected
    • All signers have names and email addresses
    • Contract has content (editor content or uploaded PDF with placed fields)
  2. Click "Send for Signing".
  3. The contract transitions to "Sent" status.
  4. Firma sends signing invitation emails to each signer in order.
  5. As signers sign, the contract status updates automatically via webhooks.
  6. When all parties have signed, the contract becomes "Active" with the signed PDF stored.

Signing Modes

  • Client Only: Only the client signs.
  • Counter-Sign: Client signs first, then you review and counter-sign.
  • Auto Counter-Sign: Your signature is applied automatically after the client signs.

PDF Contracts

For uploaded PDF contracts, place signature fields using the embedded template editor before sending:

  1. On the contract edit page, the Firma template editor loads automatically.
  2. Drag signature, initial, and date fields onto the PDF.
  3. Changes save automatically in Firma.
  4. Click "Send for Signing" when ready.

Offline Signing

For contracts signed outside Clearmargin (in person, via another tool):

  1. Open a draft contract.
  2. Click "Mark as Sent".
  3. The contract transitions to "Sent" without triggering e-signature.
  4. Later, upload the signed copy or manually mark the contract as active.
